Cuong Nguyen

Obituary of Cuong Nguyen

Our dearly loved Cuong Van Nguyen peacefully passed away on August 4, 2017 in Herndon, Virginia.  He is survived by his wife, BichKhanh T. Trieu and his son, Khanh D. Nguyen.  In his final days, he was surrounded and cared for by his loving wife, son, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews and friends.

Cuong was born on November 25, 1952 in Vietnam and lived through most of the Vietnam War.  He married BichKhanh in 1980, the one he calls “his love, his life”. The two of them have been together for more than 37 years and their love only grew stronger with time.  They have two children: a beautiful daughter, BaoVan N. Nguyen, who sadly passed away in 2001 and a son, Khanh, who they currently reside with.  Cuong is the eldest of 12 siblings.  Eight of Cuong’s brothers and sisters travelled from Australia, Canada, Vietnam, Connecticut and Virginia Beach and were able to spend time with him before he passed away

Life was challenging in Vietnam after the war.  As a result, Cuong worked in several different professions to care for his family.  First, he owned and operated a lumber and timber factory with some friends but the communist government pushed him out of business.  He became unemployed but he never stopped trying. His wife, BichKhanh, was staying with him during these difficult times. She always took care of him and his children which gave him the motivation to work as a security guard while taking classes to get a Business Administration degree. With the new education, he took a job as a Deputy Director for an organization that sells Taiwan textile materials.  Cuong and BichKhanh were also the proprietors of several businesses in Vietnam, that sold imported clothes; shoes and sandals; and construction and home interior decor materials.

In March 2000, Cuong and his family immigrated to the United States.  Within the first few days of arriving, Cuong began working at a Vietnamese restaurant.  He was offered a part-time job at Costco and still worked a second job as a dishwasher at a nursing home in Manassas, Virginia. In March 2003, Cuong and BichKhanh purchased their first home in Herndon, Virginia, which they adopted as their hometown.

Cuong worked hard his entire life, always improving himself.  He was a loving husband to his wife, a great father to his son and a respected big brother to his siblings.  Cuong was a gentleman and an honorable person.  He was very loyal and passionate about his work at Costco, and was well-liked by his coworkers, who knew him as ‘Jack’.  Cuong had a big heart and genuinely enjoyed helping others, especially the poor and less fortunate.

Cuong was an articulate event-speaker. He was smart and successful with his financial investments.  He likes driving Mercedes Benz and owns several of them.  His other hobbies consisted of singing, both live and karaoke, and playing poker with family and friends.  Cuong was immensely proud of his son for serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, but most of all, he loved his wife unconditionally, through both good and bad times.  Cuong will be eternally loved and forever missed by his Family and Friends.
