James Alton Shealey, age 90, passed away on January 9, 2022.
James was born in Tifton, GA on February 13, 1931. At age 16, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. During his 20 years of service, the Navy presented him with the opportunity to see the world while stationed in numerous locations, including Japan, Turkey and Alaska. Following his military retirement, James began a 20 year career in civil service culminating in his final position as Assistant Director for Financial Management of the U.S. Marshals Service.
James will be remembered as a consummate storyteller whose tales of his Navy service, travels to Hawaii and adventures in restoring a Pittsburgh row home captivated both family and friends alike. He was forever quick with a joke and even faster with an offer to help anyone who needed a hand. His joy for life was contagious and his work ethic inspiring. His life served as a true testament to what hard work and determination can accomplish. He will be sorely missed.
James is survived by his wife of 69 years, Charlotte; his 4 children, Michael, Carol (Fred), Mark (Julie), Kelly (Matt); 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
James will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery during a private service.
