Obituary of Anthony John DiPalo

Anthony John DiPalo (Tony) passed away at home surrounded by family love on July 2, 2019, after a brave and valiant battle with cancer.

He was born in Queens, NY, on March 6, 1936.   He is pre-deceased by his parents Thomas and Edith DiPalo; and sisters Virginia Smith and Elaine Lussier.

Always modest about his accomplishments and career, he was in-fact an expert in Safeguards and Regulations at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as well as at the NRC’s predecessor, the Atomic Energy Commission. Author of numerous technical papers, two math books, and reviewer of scientific papers, he also loved to teach and started his teaching career while still in graduate school.  He was an adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College and received an award for 45 years of service this past spring. During his 40+ years in civil service, he was drafted to serve on the House Appropriations Committee and in U.S. Customs to work on special projects.   After retirement in 2004, he continued to work for the NRC traveling to investigate nuclear power plant safety and compliance.

Family always was first, and he fought bravely to stay with them.  He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years,  Jean DiPalo;  his daughters Noele Simmons and ChristIna Stroupe; his dear son-in-law Richard Stroupe; and his five cherished grandchildren, Lucia Schrock (Andrew), Chas Simmons, Trey Stroupe, Audrey Stroupe, and Olivia Stroupe.
