Obituary of Ted Kazuo Yamashita

Ted K. Yamashita, 78, of Gainesville VA, passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on June 16, 2020.

Ted was born in Caldwell, Idaho on October 4, 1941, the son of Masao and Rina Yamashita.  He graduated from West Point in the class of 1963 and served two tours in Vietnam.  While teaching ROTC, Ted earned a masters degree from the University of Illinois. Several State-side tours of duty later, he retired as Colonel from the United States Army in 1988, working an additional 18 years before retiring from his second career in the civil sector. He was diagnosed with ALS in 2012, but continued to enjoy his favorite hobbies and pastimes, which included reading, fishing, and traveling with his wife and friends.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 55 years, Susan, sons Timothy [wife Kendra], John [wife Layla], daughter Kathleen, and his four grandchildren Corinne, Telluride, Milania, and Everly; as well as his sisters Carol Inouye of Boise, Idaho and Nancy Arnold of Los Angeles, California.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 20, 2020 at Adams-Green Funeral Home. The family will share memories and thoughts of Ted periodically from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM.  Due to the current travel restrictions, the number of guests will be limited to 50 or less. Those who do attend will be asked to wear masks and abide by CDC regulations and social distancing. For those  who are not able to attend, the service will be live broadcasted via the internet.
