Ronald Murphy

Obituary of Ronald Sherman Murphy

Ronald Sherman Murphy (Ron or Ronnie) passed away unexpectedly at this home on Friday, January 21, 2022.  He was born on December 19, 1959 in Leesburg, Virginia.  He grew up in Sterling.

Throughout Ronnie's childhood, his father owned Sterling Exxon.  So it was no surprise that he quickly became interested in cars and working on them.  His father's love of watching and attending Nascar races also influenced Ronnie's love of the sport at an early age.  The family favorite was, of course, Richard Petty.  As he got older, he had several mini bikes and motorcycles.  He became very skillful at "pulling wheelies".  His second love was fishing.

After graduation from Broad Run High School in 1978, he went to work as a mechanic at several local shops.  Eventually he became a state inspector and worked at The Tire Shop in Leesburg for many years.

He was a long time member of the Leesburg Moose Lodge and enjoyed his time there with his many friends.

Ronnie leaves behind his mother Ruth V. Murphy of Sterling, sister Bonnie J. Muth (Ronnie) of Winchester, and niece Cristina M. Nino (Sergio) of Sterling.  He also leaves behind his beloved cat Zeke.

A graveside service and interment will be held Tuesday, February 1 at Sterling Cemetery, 45835 W. Church Road, Sterling, VA at 2 pm.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a tribute donation to the Leesburg Moose Lodge, 43 Catoctin Cir., SE, Leesburg, VA  20175.
