Obituary of Johnise Retossa Molloy
Johnise Josette Molloy (née Retossa), 83, of Richmond, VA, and Morehead City, NC, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2023, in Herndon, VA. Johnise was born October 8th, 1939 in Newport News, VA to John J. Retossa and L. Blanche Retossa (née Springle). Besides being a mother and a homemaker, she worked in primary school education throughout her life, initially serving as a teacher to one of the first elementary school special needs classes in Gloucester, VA. She also served as a teacher’s aide in Fauquier County for many years, and as a volunteer aide in Chesterfield County -- supporting students’ reading skills, drawing large bulletin boards, and often sketching the students, much to their delight. Johnise enjoyed many interests and social activities including a variety of card games, cooking new recipes and sharing meals with family and friends, new crafts projects, knitting, crocheting, and cross-county yard sale hunting. She stayed current on news and technology, while still enjoying old black-and-white movies and reading who-done-it novels. She was a devoted pet owner, adopting and loving five rescue dogs over the past 10 years. Johnise attended Providence United Methodist Church (UMC) and enjoyed participating in the Knitters Club. Johnise was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Michael John Molloy, Sr. She is survived by her children: Johnise Michelle Molloy (Stevan Porter) and Michael John Molloy, Jr (Diana); her grandchildren: Ashlee Kay Saxon (Ricky) and Lucas Kincade Molloy; as well as her great-grandchildren: Nora Grace Saxon and Charles Maxwell "Max" Saxon.
